Welborn Receives Fondes Scholar Award in Nursing

SALISBURY, MD---Junior nursing major Devon Welborn is the ninth recipient of Salisbury University’s annual Fondes Scholar Award in Nursing.

Presented each fall, the scholarship is funded from a memorial donation from Tabitha Parker Fondes’ son, Robert Parker Fondes. Mrs. Fondes was born in Parsonsburg, MD, and graduated from Mercer Hospital School of Nursing in Trenton, NJ in 1915. She was a successful registered nurse for 50 of her 98 years.

A resident of Salisbury and graduate of Wicomico High School, Welborn was chosen as this year’s recipient based on her scholastic ability, which includes a 4.0 cumulative grade point average.

“We look forward to her continuing the tradition of academic excellence as a Fondes scholar,” said Mary DiBartolo, scholarship coordinator for SU’s Nursing Department.
