'Voices: Those Who Wore the Shoe' Presented February 25

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s African-American History Month celebration culminates with a performance of the acclaimed Voices: Those Who Wore the Shoe 7 p.m. Saturday, February 25, in the Wicomico Room of the Guerrieri University Center.

Voices is the stage adaptation of historic interviews with former American slaves. Voices was also adapted for radio and premiered on National Public Radio. In 1934 the Federal Writer’s Project (FWP) sent hundreds of writers to interview the few thousand former slaves still living in the United States, who were well into their late 80s to early 100s.  The FWP recorded over 40,000 pages of transcripts, from which actor Harlin Kearsley created the 90-minute stage production.

Sponsored by the Office of Multiethnic Student Services, the performance is free and the public is invited. For more information call 410-543-6030 or visit the SU Web site at www.salisbury.edu. "
