Through the Needle's Eye' Highlights Embroidery
class=""MsoNormal"">SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University invites art lovers to go “Through the Needle’s Eye.”
class=""MsoNormal"">The traveling portion of The Embroiderers’ Guild of America, Inc.’s 18th National Exhibit will be on display at Salisbury University in the Fulton Hall University Gallery February 18-April 1. “Meet the Artists” opening reception is 6-8 p.m. Friday, February 18.
class=""MsoNormal"">There are 40 works in the show made by members of the Fiber Forum which is an organization within the EGA. “Through the Needle’s Eye” displays original works made from a variety of fibers and contemporary mixed media techniques, however all produced by a needle with an enclosed eye. Their works are created with hand, free-motion and digitized machine embroidery.
class=""MsoNormal"">Through the Needle’s Eye 2004-2007, a catalog that documents the exhibit is offered for sale during the show for $12. The Guild offers a series of booklets containing instructions to stitch a heart design. This year’s design is “Heart of My Heart,” are on sale for $10. Proceeds from the booklets benefit the American Heart Association.
class=""MsoNormal"">A “Heart of My Heart” dinner is served in conjunction with this event 5-7 p.m. Friday, February 18 in the Bistro of the Commons.
class=""MsoNormal"">As part of the exhibit, “Stitcher’s Corner” demonstrations are held in the Gallery 1-4 p.m. Wednesdays. Needlepoint, beading and cross-stitch are demonstrated February 23; quilting, hardanger, cross stitch and needlepoint on March 2; beading, florentine, and cross stitch on March 9; and Japanese silk embroidery, crewel, hardanger and cross stitch on March 16.

class=""MsoNormal"">Rounding out the exhibit, Judy Jeroy of Virginia Beach, VA discusses “What the Fiber Artist Can Do” 12:30-1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 17 in the University Gallery as part of SU’s Brown Bag Lunch Discussion Series. The talk presents needle work from many inspirations and how artists interpret them in various surfaces and thread media Gallery hours are 10 a.m-4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, noon-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
