'Soul Sounds' Explores History of African-American Music

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University takes a hip trip through the evolution of African-American music courtesy of the Soul Sounds trio 8 p.m. Thursday, February 12 in the Wicomico Room of the Guerrieri University Center. Live performances and video images provide a musical journey through gospel, the blues and the works of Bessie Smith and jazz icon Duke Ellington. The audience is encouraged to sing along to the music of soul legends James Brown, Aretha Franklin and Marvin Gaye, relive the Motown era and experience music from Whitney Houston and other singers of today. The Office of Multiethnic Student Services and Union of African-American Students sponsors the event as part of SU’s African-American History Month Series.
