Smith, Gomez Headline Queer Comedy Festival October 28

SALISBURY, MD---The first openly gay comedian to appear on The Tonight Show and a comedienne who has logged appearances on HBO, Showtime and Comedy Central headline the Queer Comedy Festival 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 28, in Holloway Hall Auditorium at Salisbury University.

Bob Smith broke new ground when he appeared on stage with The Tonight Show’s Jay Leno. Since then, he has joined the writing staff of Fox Television’s Mad TV and written a best-selling book, Openly Bob, which earned this year’s Lambda Literary Award. The star of his own HBO half-hour comedy special, he has also appeared on The Howard Stern Radio Show and Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher. His writing credits also include the MTV Video Music Awards and the ABC Television situation comedy Roseanne.

Along with her cable television appearances, Marga Gomez has performed before thousands in concert halls, colleges, clubs, festivals and rallies all over the country. Fans may recognize her from her appearances in the movie Sphere with Samuel L. Jackson and De Colores, a documentary premiering at the San Francisco Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. She is also a founding member of Culture Clash, America’s leading Chicano and Latino theater and comedy troupe.

Admission to the festival is $5 per person and the public is cordially invited. SU ID holders are admitted free. SU’s Rainbow Group: Bisexual, Transgender, Gay, Lesbian and Straight Support sponsors the festival.
