Small Lecture Recounts Underground Railroad History

class=""MsoNormal"">SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s African-American History Month celebration continues noon Wednesday, February 9, as Dr. Clara Small, professor of history, presents “The Eastern Shore and the Underground Railroad.” In the Social Room of Holloway Hall.

class=""MsoNormal"">During the lecture, part of SU’s Brown Bag Lunch Discussion Series, Small speaks about the Shore’s significance in the Underground Railroad and how locals played a role in helping slaves escape to freedom in the 1800s.

class=""MsoNormal"">Small has published several papers, including Abolitionists, Free Blacks, and Runaway Slaves, which was featured in the book A History of African-Americans on Maryland’s and Delaware’s Eastern Shore. She researches Eastern Shore African-American history using oral history, official documents and other sources. She also serves on the Maryland Governor’s Task Force on Slavery.
