Small Keynote Speaker at Del State Conference"  

SALISBURY, MD---Dr. Clara Small, Salisbury State University history professor, was the keynote speaker at a second of 13 sessions “Preserving the Underground Railroad: A Regional Approach” held at Delaware State University in Dover, DE.

She presented research on “The Underground Railroad on the Eastern Shores of Maryland and Virginia” in which she chronicled the lives of the most famous conductors and abolitionists. 

Harriet Tubman, Fredrick Douglass, Rev. Samuel Green, notable Eastern Shore abolitionists who helped many slaves escape northward on the Underground Railroad, were included in Small’s presentation.

 The presentation was held from January through late April. At each weekly meeting, a noted historian, archivist, preservationist, lawyer or representative from the National park Service spoke.
