Salisbury's Promise Hosts 'CAN-struction Competition' April 21

SALISBURY, MD---Using canned goods collected during food drives in March, teams of children from local schools, community youth groups and faith organizations create innovative designs during the first-ever “CAN-struction Competition” hosted by Salisbury’s Promise.

They build their canned good creations 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday, April 21, in The Center at Salisbury’s JC Penny’s court.

Representatives from community groups serve as judges, and mall patrons may also vote for their favorite “CAN-struction.”  Prizes are awarded to the top three designs, as well as the People’s Choice.

“The community is invited to come out and see the children’s creativity and service,” said Simone Jenkins, project coordinator for Salisbury’s Promise. The event is held in honor of National Youth Service Days, which are celebrated April 20-22.

The canned food designs will be on display at The Center at Salisbury until Sunday, May 6.  Then all of the goods, which were collected by the children, will be donated to The Maryland Food Bank.

Salisbury’s Promise, a branch of America’s Promise, embodies five principles which help youth become productive citizens: Caring Adults, Healthy Start and Future, Safe Places, Marketable Skills and Opportunities to Serve.
