Salisbury Symphony Orchestra Mid-Winter Concert Feb. 19

SALISBURY, MD---Sarah Jackson, principal piccolo for the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, joins the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra at Salisbury University 8 p.m. Saturday, February 19.

The concert’s Vivaldi’s Piccolo Concerto in C Major and Bach’s Orchestra Suite No. 2 in B Minor, showcase Jackson’s talents as well as those of guest conductor—and Jackson’s husband—Clyde Mitchell. Other pieces include Bach’s A Mighty Fortress, Copland’s Down a Country Lane, Mozart’s Ave Verum Corpus and Schubert’s Symphony No. 8 in D Minor (the “Unfinished Symphony”).

Jackson earned her Bachelor of Music from the University of British Columbia and an Artist’s Diploma from McGill University in Montreal. Prior to joining the Los Angeles Philharmonic, she was assistant principal flute and piccolo with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. In addition to playing for many films, CD recordings and TV and radio broadcasts, she has performed as a soloist in the United States, Canada, Japan and the Czech Republic.

Mitchell, founding director of Vancouver’s Sinfonia of the North Shore, earned his Master of Music in orchestral conducting from California State University, Long Beach. He is also music director for the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic in Scranton and Wilkes-Barre, PA, and former conductor of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.
