SU's Alpha Phi Omega, ROTC Support Operation We Care

Operation We Care DriveSALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s chapter of the Alpha Phi Omega (APO) national co-ed service fraternity and members of the SU Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) recently held a donation drive at Walmart in Salisbury to benefit Operation We Care.

Founded in 2007 by the Eastern Shore Chapter of Harley Davidson Owners, Operation We Care sends care packages to deployed military troops worldwide and provides support for local families dealing with challenges while their loved ones are deployed.

The students collected a van-full of donated items and sold 100 military-themed rubber ducks to help defer the cost of overseas postage. SU’s New Student Reader Program donated some 150 books for the cause, while the Education Specialties and Social Work departments also made financial contributions. In all, APO raised more than $680 to help offset postage costs. The fraternity also assisted with Operation We Care’s November packing event.

The fraternity is planning another drive for Operation We Care in May. Those interested in donating should e-mail Claire Williams, APO advisor, at clwilliams@salisbury.edu to schedule a campus pickup. Monetary donations are tax-deductible. Checks should be made payable to Operation We Care.
