SU Named in Top 10 Percent of National Rankings

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University students arriving on campus next week have something to celebrate. U.S. News & World Report, The Princeton Review’s Best 357 Colleges and The 2005 Newsweek-Kaplan College Guide have ranked SU among the top 10 percent of all universities of its kind in the country. This year, SU is also one of 115 institutions profiled in The Princeton Review’s Best in the Mid-Atlantic and a Consumer’s Digest “Best Value” institution—the only one in Maryland.  “The rankings confirm what many in Maryland and the rest of the Mid-Atlantic have known for some time—SU is one of the best comprehensive universities in the nation,” said Provost David Buchanan. This is the eighth consecutive year SU has appeared on the U.S. News Top 10 list for public institutions—master’s category—in the North. U.S. News uses several criteria to measure academic quality at 572 institutions nationwide, including peer assessment, retention rate, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, graduation rate and alumni giving rate. For the sixth straight year, SU is in The Princeton Review, representing the top 10 percent of some 3,500 colleges and universities—both public and private—nationwide. The list is compiled through a combination of statistical analysis, campus visits and student surveys which the authors characterize as “qualitative and anecdotal rather than quantitative and scientific.” The Newsweek-Kaplan College Guide names SU one of “America’s 331 Most Interesting Colleges.” Consumer’s Digest ranks SU in the top 125 public universities in the nation and one of the 50 best values among that select group.
