SU Ensemble Celebrates Cinco de Mayo With 'Jazz at Night'

SALISBURY, MD---The Salisbury University Jazz Ensemble performs with Latin flair in celebration of Cinco de Mayo 7:30 p.m. Thursday May 5, in the Wicomico Room of the Guerrieri University Center. The concert features several soloists as well as percussionists Aaron Hardin and Joe McLean. SU voice major Kathryn Flynn sings familiar jazz tunes composed by songwriters Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, Rodgers and Hart, and the Gershwin brothers. Instrumental jazz standards performed include “In the Mood,” “Satin Doll” and “In Walked Bud.” The ensemble also plays its rendition of Gloria Estefan’s “Oye Mi Canto” and selected Blues Brothers tunes. “What better way is there to contribute to the campus wide celebration of Cinco de Mayo than to present a concert focused on Latin-styles of jazz?” said director and Department of Music faculty, Jerry Tabor. The performance, sponsored by the Department of Music and Multiethnic Student Services, kicks off SU’s Spring Music Festival, “Waltzes Arias and All That Jazz.” The concert is free and the public is invited.
