SU Dance Company Presents Spring Concert April 23-26

SU Dance CompanySALISBURY, MD---The Salisbury University Dance Company, directed by Dr. Victoria Hutchinson, hosts its annual Spring Concert 8 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, April 23-26, in Holloway Hall Auditorium.

The program of this popular dance production features seven new and reconstructed works by guest, faculty and student choreographers and a classical ballet performed by The Dancenter Salisbury Ensemble.

Guest choreographer Debby Robertson, a founding member of Brenda Bufalino’s American Tap Dance Orchestra, sets Shim Sham Shimmy, a vaudeville tap routine, to music by the David Leonhardt Trio.
Tracee Torrillo, SU alumna, premieres a jazz dance to music by Janet Jackson titled Feedback from a Personal View. Jessica Hindman-Wheatley, director of The Cambridge Ballet Company, premieres a fusion of old and new school hip-hop in Dance for Your Life

Two dance faculty works premiere. C.J. Hitchcock transports the full company into a Higher Groove with the music of Sly and the Family Stone. Mary Norton mixes Gershwin tunes in a contemporary ballet titled By George. A third faculty work, Hutchinson’s Rhapsodic Dialogue II, a modern dance set to the music of J.S. Bach’s Cello Suites, was premiered by Ballet Rincon of Tucson, AZ, in 2007.

Junior Katie Erdman, the student winner of the Fall 2007 Showcase, uses thematic gestures and variations in tempo to explore the five stages of grief in The Pursuit of Acceptance, a modern dance.

The Spring Concert benefits Relay For Life and the mission of the American Cancer Society to eliminate cancer as a major health issue and provide services in the community.

Admission for the one-hour performance is $8 for adults, $6 for senior citizens, teens and SU alumni. Children under 12 and SU ID holders are admitted free.  Reservations are not required.  Tickets are available at the door 30 minutes before curtain.
