SU Celebrates Women's History Month in March
SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University celebrates Women’s History Month with a series of events in March.
A performance of The Vagina Monologues inaugurates the series 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, March 3-5, in the Wicomico Room of the Guerrieri University Center. The performance is a student production of Eve Ensler’s award-winning production aimed to raise awareness and stop violence against women.
Sunday March 6, Dr. Sandra Steingraber, ecologist, author and cancer survivor, speaks in Holloway Hall auditorium at 7 p.m. She is an internationally recognized expert on the environmental links between cancer and reproductive health. Steingraber’s book, Living Downstream: An Ecologist Looks at Cancer and the Environment, presents cancer as a human rights issue.
Dr. Kristen Walton, SU history faculty, hosts a Brown Bag Lunch Discussion on “A Woman in a Man’s Position: Switching Genders in Early Modern Europe,” at noon Wednesday, March 9, in the Social Room of Holloway Hall.
Dr. Elsie Walker English faculty, shows and discusses the New Zealand film Whale Rider 7 p.m. Thursday, March 10, in Fulton Hall Room 111.
SU hosts multi-instrumental singer/songwriter Erin McKeown 7 p.m. Friday, March 11, in the Wicomico Room. SU faculty band Pugsly is the opening act.
Paula Mozen, documentary film writer and director, presents her film 3 girls i know 7 p.m. Thursday, March 31, in the Wicomico Room. The documentary portrays the search for sexual identity during the age of HIV and AIDS. A question-and-answer session follows.
Throughout the month, a display featuring notable female authors is held at Blackwell Library.
