SU Celebrates Homecoming Week October 2-8

Sammy the Sea GullSALISBURY, MD---From festive performances to student competitions, Salisbury University’s 2017 Homecoming Week offers many opportunities for the campus community to celebrate.

This year’s theme is “There’s No Place Like Salisbury.” Activities begin Monday, October 2, as the Student Government Association hosts a tie dye kickoff event from 2-4 p.m. in Red Square. From 2-6 p.m., the SU Gospel Choir hosts an open mic event in the Fireside Lounge of the Guerrieri Student Union.

The SGA’s “Sea Gulls Got Talent” competition is 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 3, in the Wicomico Room of the Guerrieri Student Union.

Students are invited to learn about service opportunities in the community during a Volunteerism Fair from noon-3 p.m. Thursday, October 5, in the Link of Nations. That evening, the SGA hosts its annual “Fire and Ice” wing and ice cream eating contest in the Fireside Lounge, followed by an outdoor movie at 7 p.m. on Sea Gull Square Lawn.

Activities on Friday, October 6, begin at 2 p.m. with the annual Homecoming powderpuff football tournament. The SGA’s FlockFEST celebration is 4-6 p.m. in Red Square, followed by a screening of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales at 7 p.m. in Devilbiss Hall Auditorium.

SU’s NAACP chapter and Black Student Union round out that evening’s activities with a Homecoming party in the Wicomico Room. Tickets are $3-$10.

The Panhellenic Council’s second annual Color Run 5K kicks off events on Saturday, October 7, at 9 a.m. at the Maggs Physical Activities Center. A Living Learning Community brunch at the Quad also begins at 9 a.m.

Tailgating begins at 10 a.m. at the corner of South Division and Avery streets. Entrance to the tailgate area is $10 per vehicle. For more information, including restrictions on what can be brought into the tailgate area, visit www.salisbury.edu/gameday.

Sea Gull Football hosts Christopher Newport University at 1 p.m. Admission is $7; $5 for alumni, seniors and non-SU students; $3 for children 5-12; free for children under 5. SU ID holders receive one ticket free.

A Homecoming showcase featuring Untouchables Dance, Inc. is 4-6 p.m. at Sammy’s Angle, followed by family bingo night beginning at 7 p.m. in Perdue Hall Room 156.

Homecoming Week events culminate with the National Pan-Hellenic Council’s annual step show at 8 p.m. in Holloway Hall Auditorium. Tickets are $15, available in advance at the Guerrieri Student Union Information Desk.
