SU Celebrates Earth Day April 24

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University celebrates Earth Day with activities from 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 24, in Red Square.

Students from Dr. Joan Maloof’s earth literacy class present displays on their initial ideas for the Environmental Protection Agency’s “P3: People, Prosperity and the Planet” grant competition. Through this program, the EPA challenges college students to come up with better designs for sustainability. The top designs compete for $75,000 in grant funding.

Earth Day festivities also include free saplings, samples from Rise-Up Coffee, a cloth shopping bag giveaway and a hybrid car demonstration. At 1 p.m., Red Bull energy drink sponsors an egg drop contest, during which students will determine whether shock absorption devices of their own design will be able to stop an egg from cracking when dropped 50 feet.

Sponsored by the Student Government Association, admission is free and the public is invited. For more information call 410-543-6030 or visit the SU Web site at www.salisbury.edu.
