SU Celebrates Cinco de Mayo

SALISBURY, MD---Mexican music, cuisine and dancing lessons highlight Salisbury University’s Cinco de Mayo celebration 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday, May 5, outdoors between Henson Science Hall and Devilbiss Hall on the SU campus.

Cinco de Mayo commemorates May 5, 1862, the day a 4,500-member Mexican militia defeated the French Army in Puebla, Mexico, to halt France’s takeover of the Mexican Empire.

SU’s Organization of Latin American Students teaches salsa dancing during this year’s Cinco de Mayo celebration, and the band Fugas plays Mexican music including salsa, meringue, cumbia, rancheras, Mexican country and Spanish rock.

Mexican foods available include nachos, beef tacos and quesadillas, as well as vegetarian items. The event features games and a mystery prize.

The SU Spanish Club sponsors the celebration. For more information call 410-543-6030 or visit the SU Web site at www.salisbury.edu.
