SU Book Store Welcomes New Manager

SALISBURY, MD---Delmar, DE, native Gerry Wood, returns to the Eastern Shore after 15 years working as manager at the Eastern Nazarene College (ENC) book store in Boston, to become Salisbury University’s new book division manager for its Book Store. During his tenure at ENC, Wood was elected by students as staff member of the year and was the vice president of the College Stores of New England, a trade organization for book store managers. Wood was also active in creating ENC’s long term master plan. As an experienced buyer, Wood is well aware of student concerns over book prices. He hopes to make more used books available for students, which are 25 percent cheaper than new. He also wants book buy-backs to be more flexible by taking more books and offering more money. Developing a stronger relationship between faculty and the bookstore is another top priority. Wood, who arrived in early January, came to SU because he admires the institution. He said his reception by the SU community has been positive. He recently joined the Salisbury Chorale at the university and hopes to participate in more organizations. Landscape design is a pastime of Wood, he helped develop the arboretum at ENC and designed a grass garden in Hutchinson, KS. With 35 different grasses of varying color and texture, it is regarded as one of the most beautiful gardens in the state. In Boston he met many people from abroad as a host for international business executives who came to the United States to polish their business skills at the EF International Language School. Wood created long-term relationships with them, often visiting their home countries of Italy, Germany and Switzerland. “It made me feel like I was a citizen of the world,” said Wood. He wants to use his international experiences to benefit SU. For more information call 410-543-6030 or visit the SU Web site at www.salisbury.edu.
