New 'Learn with SU' Series Continues Through May 3

SALISBURY, MD---Do you want to know the latest about vitamins before adding them to your diet?  Would you like to build your strength and flexibility without pulling a muscle?  Are you intrigued by beers with interesting names and wonder about their taste?

Beginning in April, Salisbury University invites Delmarva residents age 50 and over to participate in “Learn with SU,” a new lifelong learning program that explores these areas and more.

Offered at various locations including the Maryland and Delaware beach communities, the presentations follow a pilot project in February which was well received.  That program explored a variety of topics from Delmarva history to popular wine tasting.  The next “Learn with SU” sessions include:  
 

“Taking the Confusion out of Vitamins and Supplements:  Q&A”
Diane Clark, owner of Wholesome Habits in Bethany Beach, DE, shares her knowledge of vitamins, supplements and homeopathic remedies for healthier lives. Presentations are:
• Tuesday, April 17 – CHEER Center, Ocean View, DE, 10 a.m.
• Tuesday, April 24 – Worcester County Library’s Ocean Pines Branch, Ocean Pines, MD, 1 p.m.
• Tuesday, May 1 – Bethany-Fenwick Chamber of Commerce, Fenwick, DE, 3 p.m.

“Resistance Training”
Erin Budd, an SU graduate student, encourages increasing muscle strength and flexibility using Fit-Tubes during a three-session series. Admission is $10 (one-time fee) and participants receive a Fit-Tube.  Comfortable clothing is recommended.  Presentations are:
• Tuesday, April 17, 24 and May 1 – CHEER Center, Ocean View, DE, 9 a.m.
• Wednesday, April 18, 25 and May 2 – SU’s Scarborough Student Leadership Center, 11 a.m.

“The Taste of Good Grapes”
Peggy Raley, proprietor of Nassau Valley Vineyard, leads a wine tasting and demonstrates the process used to make the popular drink at Delaware’s only winery. Admission is $5 per person.  Please RSVP to Dixie Carlisle at 302-628-5631. The presentation is:

“Cooking with Wine”
Pete Roskovich, owner of Black Diamond Catering, goes beyond tasting to creating delectable dishes with wine. Admission is $5 per person, with a limit of 15 participants. To RSVP, call 410-677-5416.  Presentations are:

“Container Gardening”
Brent Kenney of Grist Mill Gardens in Pittsville, MD, discusses what’s new this spring with container garden designs, plants and supplies.  Presentations are:
• Tuesday, April 24 – Worcester County Library’s Ocean Pines Branch, Ocean Pines, MD, 3 p.m.
• Wednesday, April 25 – SU’s Scarborough Student Leadership Center, 2 p.m.

“Beer History and Appreciation Featuring Maryland Craft Beers”
SU alumnus Nick “The Baltimore Beer trekker” Nichols highlights interesting brews and microbreweries.  Admission is $5 per person.  Presentations are:
• Thursday, April 26 – Adam’s the Place for Ribs, Fruitland, MD, 4 p.m.
• Friday, April 27 – CHEER Center, Ocean View, DE, 4 p.m.

“Stained Glass: Yesterday and Today”
Connie Ballato, owner of Sun Glass Studio, and SU’s own Carolyn Adkins, owner of Glass by Grammy, explore changing techniques, as well as the ongoing love affair that both artists and the public have with colorful glass.  Presentations are:
• Thursday, April 26 (Ballato) – Bethany-Fenwick Chamber of Commerce, Fenwick, DE, 10 a.m.
• Monday, April 30 (Adkins) – SU’s Scarborough Student Leadership Center, 2 p.m.

“Basic Flower Arranging”
Theresa Pyle, owner of Blossom, Inc. brings spring indoors and shares secrets to creating attractive flower arrangements.
