Morales Co-Chairs Washington Regional Task Force

Linda MoralesSALISBURY, MD---Linda Morales, Salisbury University’s interim chief diversity officer, has been appointed co-chair of the Washington Regional Task Force Against Campus Prejudice.  Comprised of administrators and faculty from Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C., the group explores strategies to address issues related to equity and diversity on college campuses and surrounding communities.

“For 20 years, the task force has been committed to examining and eliminating discrimination in higher education,” Morales said.  “My role will be to lead discussions about expanding our work as educators, as there are many diversity and social justice issues and challenges that remain.”

The task force is the only one of its kind to be designated by the American Council on Education as a model for developing support mechanisms for campus diversity efforts.  Over the years, its work has included issues of gender, age, class, sexual orientation, ability, religion, race, ethnicity and color.

At SU, Morales works collaboratively across divisions to develop partnerships and initiatives that ensure inclusion and diversity among faculty, staff and students.  Previously, she has worked in the areas of cultural diversity, conflict resolution, and student and organizational development.  She served as executive director for diversity and equal opportunity at the College of Southern Maryland, and was founding director of the Multicultural Resource Center at Binghamton University, among other positions.

Morales earned her B.S. in Communication/Media and M.A. in English from the State University of New York at Fredonia.  She has served on the advisory board for the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in American Higher Education, and is a member of the American Association for Affirmative Action, National Association of Chief Diversity Officers in Higher Education and National Association for Multicultural Education.  Her chapter on “Culturally Competent Conflict Resolution in Higher Education” was published in the 2008 book One Paradigm, Many Worlds.
