Marketing Students Win Five Awards at Int'l Collegiate Conference

SALISBURY, MD---A delegation of 17 Salisbury State University students and their faculty advisor, Dr. Pamela Alreck, recently attended the 22nd annual International Collegiate Conference of the American Marketing Association in New Orleans.

The Perdue School of Business students created a colorful and inventive exhibit, based on their chapter's theme, "Giving You the Tools to Build Careers." The exhibit was designed to promote its chapter and the entire SSU community. The delegation returned with an unprecedented number of honors and awards.

Based on leadership and organizational skills demonstrated through community service projects, research programs and special events during the past year, the Perdue School chapter won awards for "Outstanding Collegiate Chapter Exhibit," "Outstanding Chapter Planning," "Outstanding Fundraising Activities," Outstanding Professional Development" and "Outstanding Community Service."

Alreck, associate professor of marketing, won the Hugh G. Wales Faculty Advisor Award for her dedication and commitment to the student AMA members. She was also a judge for the conference's chapter competition, entered by more than 100 colleges and universities. Alreck judged the entries for the AMA chapters from the Midwestern region of the United States. In addition, she was the moderator for the marketing research sessions held at the conference.

Because of the SSU chapter's success in recruiting and motivating its members, the Collegiate Conference Committee invited the chapter to provide student speakers for two leadership sessions. The presentation by Chris Cielewich and Nick Proescher focused on "Motivating Members," while Christy Sorrelle and Scott Sides presented a series of techniques for "Recruiting Members."

The chapter's co-president, Cielewich, competed in the Northwestern Mutual Life Sales Scholarship Competition. Cielewich placed third and won a $150 scholarship in this event, sponsored by the Wall Street Journal.
