Lower Shore Child Care Resource Center Receives EPA Grant

SALISBURY, MD---The Lower Shore Child Care Resource Center at Salisbury University recently received a $9,890 grant through the Environmental Protection Agency to hire an environmental health consultant. The consultant will work with childcare providers through a series of workshops focusing on environmental contaminants such as pesticide, lead, asthma triggers, and proper hand-washing techniques.

In addition, four childcare providers will be chosen to work directly with the environmental consultant in a pilot program in which the providers will use the “Hooray for Hands” curriculum with the children in their childcare facilities. The first workshop is Saturday, November 6, at the Lower Shore Child Care Resource Center in Power Professional Building at the corner of Wayne and Power Streets. Representatives from the EPA presented the grant check to the center on Monday, September 27.
