'Learn With SU' Spring Classes Announced

SALISBURY, MD---From day trips and fitness programs, to a book club and boat cruise, the latest installment of Salisbury University’s popular “Learn with SU” series offers Delmarva residents age 50 and over a variety of lifelong learning opportunities this spring.  Classes are held on campus and across the Lower Eastern Shore, including the Maryland and Delaware beach communities.

“We are thrilled to feature 16 different programs taught by faculty, staff, alumni and community members,” said coordinator Amy Waters, SU’s director of leadership giving and stewardship.

The spring series begins in February with two health programs:  low-impact walking starting February 4, and stretching and balance starting February 12.  A three-part sock knitting demonstration begins February 11.

For literature lovers, join a poetry discussion group on February 10 and 14, or read Sarah Palin’s Going Rogue: An American Life with a book club starting February 15.  On February 22, author John Stokes delivers a lecture on his evocative first-person narrative Students on Strike:  Jim Crow, Civil Rights, Brown and Me.  The next month brings the opportunity to explore “The World and Works of Jane Austen” during an SU humanities seminar on March 6.

Those interested in writing their own short stories, memoirs and poetry may attend two sessions to gather and generate ideas on March 16 and 18.  Anyone feeling lucky may take a bus trip to the Harrington Raceway & Slots Casino on March 17.  For the outdoorsy, discover Delmarva’s birds at four hotspots from the beach to the bay starting March 18, or explore the life of a honey bee with a third generation beekeeper on March 23.  The next day, relax through a guided meditation series.

The spring 2010 offerings wind down with a personal note card making class on April 15, and a cooking class on dinner party recipes on April 20.  Finally, when the weather gets warmer, take a two hour Suicide Bridge restaurant boat cruise on April 28.

Admission varies.  For more information about registration or a full class schedule, contact Waters at 410-677-5416 or learnwithsu@salisbury.edu, or visit the “Learn with SU” Web site at www.salisbury.edu/lifelonglearning
