Jacqueline Moran Maisel Joins SU as New Registrar

SALISBURY, MD---Jacqueline Moran Maisel, Salisbury University’s new registrar, combines experiences of both close interpersonal advising of students in a small private setting and managing services for a 70,000-member public global campus. “We are happy to have a registrar who is an expert with both technology and people.  That’s a winning combination.  I believe she will serve the campus’s various publics well,” said SU Provost David Buchanan. Coming to SU from an associate registrar’s position in the Registrar’s Office at the Adelphi headquarters of the University of Maryland University College (UMUC), Maisel said she looked forward to interacting with Salisbury students and faculty: “That’s the life blood of the Registrar’s Office.” Recently moving to Salisbury from the Washington, D.C., area, Maisel said she was happily surprised to find welcoming surroundings on the Eastern Shore. Within a week of moving into her new home, neighbors introduced themselves and welcomed her to the neighborhood with baked goods and offers of assistance to ease the burdens of relocation. “There’s a marvelous sense of community here, both in Salisbury and at SU,” she said. “Salisbury has a lot to offer, yet it has retained a small-town atmosphere.” At SU, Maisel said she is excited about technological advances in the Registrar’s Office. That office’s conversion to PeopleSoft, a system slated to unify student data entry and retrieval, is allowing administrators to learn new skills and giving students a chance to showcase theirs, she said. “SU is on the cutting edge with the installation of PeopleSoft.” Maisel holds a Master of Science in counseling from Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor of Science in liberal studies from the University of the State of New York Regents College. She began her career as a counselor at the College of Notre Dame of Maryland in Baltimore. Prior to joining UMUC in 1997, she also served as a counseling center associate at the University of Maryland College Park. She served in several positions of ascending leadership at UMUC. She is a member of the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers and the Johns Hopkins Alumni Association.
