Folk Heroes Concert Benefits SU Saturday, April 17

SALISBURY, MD---The Salisbury-based folk music group Folk Heroes performs a concert to benefit the Thomas G. Elliot Scholarship Endowment for Salisbury University students at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 17, in the Black Box Theatre at Fulton Hall.

The trio (Salisbury attorney Robin Cockey on fiddle; Dr. Michael O’Loughlin, chair of the SU Political Science Department, on guitar; and Princess Anne physician Dr. Charles Stegman on guitar and banjo) hopes proceeds from the concert will encourage students to bring their musical gifts to SU. The endowment is named in honor of Dr. Thomas G. Elliot, founder and recently retired conductor of the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra at SU.

"We are pleased to perform our third benefit concert for the Music Department's scholarship fund.” O’Loughlin said. “We play folk music, music that is handed down from generation to generation, expressing the joys, woes and struggles of everyday people, but which requires in each era a new generation players and musicians able and willing to carry on the art form.  I think it’s great to have an opportunity help provide support for a new generation of musicians through this fund.”

Cockey has a special interest in SU’s music program. A former member of the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra, he is married to Dr. Linda Cockey, chair of the Music Department.

Admission to the concert is $10 per person. No advance reservations are required. The public is cordially invited.
