Edgar Baker Receives Alumni Appreciation Award at Winter Commencement

SALISBURY, MD--Edgar A. Baker, Jr., of Salisbury is this year's winner of Salisbury State University's Alumni Appreciation Award. The award will be presented at winter commencement on Sunday, December 20, at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center.

"Ed Baker has been a strong and consistent supporter of the University and its students," said Karen Brownell Leimann, president of the SSU Alumni Association Board of Directors.

Baker, who graduated magna cum laude in 1971 with majors in both sociology and psychology, was well known on campus. He served as a resident assistant and member of the Student Government Association. Prefiguring his career in law, he also worked toward the formation of the student Judicial Board.

During the past two decades, Baker has been a strong supporter of SSU's Alumni Association, which now has over 23,000 members. A board director and former president, he has served on several of its committees including Strategic Planning, Bylaws, Homecoming and Student Interaction.

He also was chair of the Alumni Benefits Committee and, as a member of the Work Information Network (WIN), served as a panelist for Career Day.

He and his wife, Linda, also an alumna of the Class of '71, worked actively to raise money to build the SSU Alumni House, one of the few in the University System of Maryland.

He recently became a member of SSU's new alumni advocacy group, the Board of Visitors.

Baker is active in the community, with the Salvation Army Advisory Board. A member of Seidel, Baker & Tilghman, P.A., he is county attorney for Wicomico.
