Department of Music Presents 'Song Yet Sung' Tribute February 18

SALISBURY, MD---The Salisbury University Department of Music celebrates African-American History Month and the “One Maryland, One Book” program with a special performance of Song Yet Sung. Subtitled “A Negro Spiritual Tribute,” the performance is 7 p.m. Thursday, February 18, in the Wicomico Room of the Guerrieri University Center.

John Wesley Wright, SU music faculty, directs student and faculty performers in this adaptation of award-winning author James McBride’s novel Song Yet Sung. A tale of African-American slaves living on the Eastern Shore in the 1850s, the book was last year’s Maryland Humanities Council “One Maryland, One Book” novel.

The concert features selected readings from the book. Performers include Ashley Hartman as narrator, Laura Murphy as Liz Spocott, Natalie Brown as the Old Woman, Terron Quailes as the Negro Boy and Martin Luther King, Jr., and Nathan Gioconda as Clarence.
