Clay, Fire and Sand Artist Ramon Camarillo Exhibits at SU

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University features the works of Hawaiian clay artist Roman Camarillo’s March 11-April 15 in the Atrium Gallery of the Guerrieri University Center. The event is part of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts’ “Tour de Clay” programs held in Baltimore and on the Eastern Shore.

An opening reception held in conjunction with the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Juried Student Clay Exhibit is Friday March 11 from 4-6 p.m. at UMES and from 6-8 p.m. at SU. A shuttle bus will be provided for transportation between the universities. Atrium Gallery hours are Tuesday-Friday 10 am–4 pm. The gallery is closed on Mondays and weekends.

Camarillo earned an undergraduate degree in marketing and a master’s in business administration from Hawaii Pacific University. After graduation he realized his true calling was working with clay.  His large, wheel-thrown pots reflect the influences of three cultures: Japanese, Hawaiian and the East Coast where he now resides.  Camarillo layers glazes on bisqueware for texture and fires his work using the open-pit method or a self constructed kiln.
