Choong Lee Wins Innovative Teacher Award from SBA

SALISBURY, MD--Dr. Choong Lee, professor of management information systems in the Franklin P. Perdue School of Business at Salisbury State University, recently received the Southern Business Association Administration (SBAA) Innovative Teacher Award for the "Information Systems Active Learning Laboratory Project." The award of $1,500 and trophy were presented to Choong at the SBAA's annual meeting in Charleston, SC.

Started by converting an existing dorm lounge (insert dorm name) into a learning space, the lab allowed information science majors the opportunity to learn computer networking not available through regular University channels, and provided faculty with the means to use innovative technology in their courses and give students hands-on experience and the opportunity to be involved in customized information technology projects. The program also allows the University to offer an advanced networking class in which students pursue Novell, Microsoft and/or UNIX professional certifications.

The lab was established by Lee and Dr. Jeffrey Kottemann, chair of the Information and Decision Sciences Department, in collaboration with the offices of Housing and Residence Life and Information Technology Services. The President's Office provided funding for the project and students helped to configure the lab.

SBAA, a group of more than 275 business school deans, is dedicated to the improvement of education through leadership and enhancement. Perdue School Dean Richard F. Bebee served as the SBAA president from 1996-97.
