Bharatanatyam Indian Dance Classes Held at SU This Fall

BharatanatyamSALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s dance class series continues Mondays, October 10-November 7, with instruction in Bharatanatyam Indian spiritual dancing.

Taught by instructor Moushumi Chakraborty, classes are 5 p.m. in the Great Hall of Holloway Hall. No experience or pre-registration is necessary. Comfortable clothing is recommended.

Indian classical dances, such as Bharatanatyam, are rooted in devotion. A majority originated as temple dances. Chakraborty teaches the classic dance forms as building blocks to choreograph a Rabindranath Tagore dance. Tagore was a noted Renaissance man in late 19th- and early 20th-century India, helping to reshape Bengali literature and music, and Indian art.

Sponsored by the Cultural Affairs Office, admission is free and the public is invited. For more information call 410-543-6271 or visit the SU website at www.salisbury.edu.
