'The Archaeology of Old Somerset' presentation April 5

SALISBURY, MD---Dr. Elizabeth Ragan of Salisbury University's Department of History presents "The Archaeology of Old Somerset: Life on the Manokin in the 17th Century" on Saturday, April 5, at 1 p.m. in SU's Edward H. Nabb Research Center for Delmarva History and Culture.

Ragan and a team of SU archaeology students have been working to uncover artifacts on Thornton, an estate patented by William Thorne, one of Somerset County's founding magnates and its first militia captain. Although its location has long been known from documentary sources, the plantation's large size meant the archaeological site was not discovered until 1996.

Ragan discusses findings at Thornton as well as ongoing efforts to establish a local center for archaeological research.
