Award-Winning Children's Author Seeger Speaks at SU March 3

SALISBURY, MD---New York Times bestselling author and illustrator Laura Vaccaro Seeger isn’t looking to overtake Stephen King or Michael Crichton on that list—her audience is decidedly younger.

An award-winning children’s author, she speaks about her works 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, in the Great Hall of Holloway Hall.

Seeger grew up in Long Island, NY. She attended the School of Fine Art and Design at SUNY Purchase in Westchester, NY, where she earned her B.F.A. She then moved to Manhattan to begin her career as an animator, artist and editor in network television. She worked for NBC and ABC, creating show openings and special segments for many years, and has won an Emmy for her animation on NBC.

She is the recipient of a 2008 Caldecott Honor, Theodore Seuss Geisel Honors in 2008 and 2009, a 2007 New York Times Best Illustrated Book Award and the 2007 Boston Globe/Horn Book Award for best picture book. Among her titles are First the Egg, The Hidden Alphabet, Lemons Are Not Red, Walter Was Worried and Black? White! Day? Night! All were named American Library Association Notable Books and Child Magazine Best Books of the Year.

Co-sponsored by the Charles W. and Marilyn C. Seidel School of Education and Professional Studies and the Eastern Shore Regional Library, admission is free and the public is invited.  For more information call 410-543-6030 or visit the SU web site at
