Artist-in-Residence Michael Hough Speaks at SU April 3

SALISBURY, MD---With exhibits spanning both the East and West coasts, clay sculptor Michael Hough has been a professional in the art world for more than a quarter century.

Now a professor at Bridgewater College, VA, he comes to Salisbury University as an artist-in-residence this semester, lecturing on his work 7 p.m. Thursday, April 3, in Fulton Hall Room 111.

“My sculptures and wall reliefs are derived from found objects, either as enlarged copies or as stylized responses to each,” said Hough. “With a table full of clay ‘parts,’ I assemble the still lifes, intuitively searching for a visual and emotional relationship between each. In hunt for contrasts that are fun, that intrigue and cause you to ask, ‘What was this guy thinking?’”

Sponsored by the Art Department, Hough’s lecture is free and the public is invited. For more information call 410-543-6030 or visit the SU Web site at www.salisbury.edu.

In addition, Hough hosts a hands-on ceramic sculpture workshop 9 a.m.-5 p.m. in Fulton Hall Room 127 for members and guests of the Clay Guild of the Eastern Shore. For more information, fees and an application call Dot Truitt at 410-749-8277 or Marie Cavallaro at 410-543-6270.
