Annual Children's Theatre Ensemble Performance Feb. 4-5
SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s Children’s Theatre Ensemble presents The Ice Wolf 1 and 3 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, February 4-5, in the Black Box Theatre of Fulton Hall.
Children and adults alike are invited to see SU students perform the Joanna Halpert Kraus play about a young albino child in an Eskimo community. When famine strikes the village, the community blames the albino child for its woes. Ashamed of the accusations, the young girl flees into the forest and asks the Wood God to transform her into a wolf. He does, under the condition that she never return to her village. When she breaks that vow, both she and the villagers face the consequences.
Kraus is an American Alliance of Theatre and Education Award winner with more than a dozen books and plays, several of which, including The Ice Wolf, have been performed off Broadway.
Two casts at SU perform the play, which offers lessons in fair treatment, fear of the unknown and living up to responsibility.
Andrew Heller of the Communication and Theatre Arts Department directs. Cast members include Lauren Monroe as Storyteller No. 1; Stephanie Dargan and Jessica Morton as Storyteller No. 2 and Anatou; Melissa Laur as Storyteller No. 2; Hank Brannock and Leah Loch as Storyteller No. 3; Karen Muller and Mike Spencer as Storyteller No. 4; Andy Lee and Matt Macy as Karvik, Kiviog and the Wood God; Anne Bik and Kat Hess as Arnarqik; Brett Harwood as Tarto; Zach Coffman as Atata; Courtney Weaver and Jenn Calvin as Shikikanaq; B.J. Hoyle as Motomiak and Villager; and Jared Algier, Steve Sharkey, Jackie Fowler, Carol Hilley and Debbie Whitney as Villagers.
Steven Sharkey provides scene design and serves as technical director. Karen Muller is lighting designer. Derek Lingle is scenic artist.
