Abi Treut Presents Senior Honors Thesis Performance May 16
SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University theatre major Abi Treut presents her senior honors thesis The Love of a Woman 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, in the Black Box Theatre of Fulton Hall.
The senior honors thesis performance is the culmination of Treut’s four years of study in acting and voice at SU. Consisting of four monologues and three songs, the performance is an extension of her research.
The pieces were selected for their range not only of style—taking in everything from Shakespeare to Irving Berlin—but for their range of emotional struggle. “Some are defiant, some effusive, some pliant, and some simply confused, yet all depict women who strive to retain a sense of identity and dignity while offering of themselves in the name of love,” she said.
"I have been so impressed and entertained by Abi Treut's acting and singing talents since I had the pleasure of seeing her sprightly performance in the ingenue role of Cecily in Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest almost four years ago, said Dr. Tony Whall, director of SU’s Bellavance Honors Program. “Since then she has won high praise in several theatrical productions, most recently as the lead in Once Upon a Mattress and also as a soloist with the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra. She is a gifted actress and vocalist, and her capstone thesis performance will surely highlight all of her talents developed these past four years in SU's Theatre and Music departments."
As her director, Dr. T. Paul Pfeiffer, director of theatre at SU, assisted Treut in choosing and arranging the program and has coached her development of her performance: “I have been delighted to work with Abi since our first foray together in The Importance of Being Earnest. I have worked closely with her in class and in productions and have always been keen on her enthusiasm and her determination to succeed. Her program here is an apt reflection of her scope as an actress and as a singer. Salisbury audiences will be well familiar with her work here and I am sure will delight in sharing in this ‘send off’ program as we wish Abi all the best in her career in theatre.” Admission is free and the public is invited.
