'3 girls i know' Screening, Discussion Thursday, March 31

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University presents the documentary 3 girls i know, written and directed by Paula Mozen, as part of its Women’s History Month celebration 7 p.m. Thursday, March 31 in the Wicomico Room of the Guerrieri University Center. The film traces the path of three ethnically diverse teenagers from Baltimore, San Francisco and Montana who find their lives abruptly impacted by their sexual decisions. How each person deals with the consequences gives an intimate view of teenage life and their issues including peer pressure, parents, relationships, sexuality, pregnancy, HIV and AIDS. “3 girls i know … is a fresh, frank unapologetic look at the prospects and perils of sexual decision-making for young women today… In the age of HIV/AIDS, changing family forms, and increasing openness about non-heterosexuality, this film is right on time—and the fact that that it captures the subtleties of experience among people from different ethnic, racial and cultural groups is refreshing and uncommon” said Dr. Layli Phillips, associate professor of women’s studies and associate of african american studies faculty at Georgia State University. Mozen’s past projects include No Rewind, 4 Films and Without Reservations. She has also worked for the Discovery Channel as a professional editor completing Anaconda, Giant Snake of the Amazon. She was a 2002 Rockefeller Film and Video Fellowship nominee and Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Blue Ribbon winner. The film, free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Women’s History Month Committee, SU Gender Studies Interest Group, Charles R. and Martha N. Fulton School of Liberal Arts, Richard A. Henson School of Science and Technology, Franklin P. Perdue School of Business, the Marilyn C. Seidel school of Education and Professional Studies, Blackwell Library and The Office of the Provost and the Office of Cultural of Affairs and Museum Programs.
