"Art Scholarship Sale November 8-12"

SALISBURY, MD---Two senior Salisbury State University Art Department faculty have established a new foundation dedicated to the visual arts on the Eastern Shore. One of its first activities is a scholarship art sale benefiting regional high school students planning to pursue visual art training at the university level, including Salisbury State.

This inaugural sale is scheduled for Wednesday-Sunday, November 8-12, at the Cleary Gallery & Studio, 118-B North Division Street, above Nellie’s Flowers. Hours are Wednesday-Friday, 11 a.m.-7 p.m., and Saturday-Sunday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. According to SSU art faculty Marie Cavallaro and John Cleary, two of the founding members, the CCART Foundation scholarship will go to local students showing academic and artistic excellence. Artists participating in the sale so far include Kathy Calibres, Sue Thomas, Margery Violetta, Fred Rapko, Gloria Smith, Nancy Mysak, Betty Sur, Angela Herbert Hodges, Andy Carpenter, Susan Read, David Scott, Hylene English, John Loszonski, Laura Ellison, the Eastern Shore Clay Guild, Vezna Doves, Beth Fusaro, Grover Cantwell, Paula Hepburn, Susan Love and Ann Harding of Heirloom Pillows in Easton, as well as Cavallaro and Cleary. Besides painting, prints and ceramics, many handicrafted items will be sold such as crochet work, silver work, other custom jewelry, furniture, pillows and purses.

The scholarship sale is still soliciting participants and would like to include the work of SSU students and artists, Cavallaro added.

In an exhibit on the third floor, CCART is also spotlighting the works of current and former SSU art students Susan Holt, Chris Wilson, Scott Floyd and Ron Lambert.
