Eastern Shore Educators Explore Leadership at SU Conference
SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University recently welcomed some 130 aspiring educational leaders from public school systems across the Eastern Shore for its fifth annual Educational Leadership Conference.
The event featured morning and afternoon keynote addresses by two award-winning principals: Dr. Michael Brown of Pocomoke Elementary (Maryland Association of Elementary Principals’ National Distinguished Principal) and Dr. Sandra Reid of Pikesville High (Maryland’s 2017 High School Principal of the Year).
Participants also engaged in two breakout sessions, exploring how leaders model the way, inspire shared vision, challenge processes, enable others and encourage “heart.”
“The breakout session topics reflect the principles of The Leadership Challenge, a book and concept developed by James Kouzes and Barry Posner to help ‘ordinary people enable others to achieve extraordinary things,’” said Dr. Jon Andes, a planning committee member and faculty in SU’s Education Leadership and Graduate Studies Department.
The one-day conference was sponsored by SU, the Academy for Leadership in Education and the Eastern Shore of Maryland Educational Consortium.
