Perdue School Alumni Return for Panel Discussion
SALISBURY, MD---Seven recent Salisbury University graduates returned to campus in November for a panel discussion in five classes taught by Paula Morris, professor of the practice in the Management and Marketing Department of SU’s Franklin P. Perdue School of Business.
They included Leslie Nielsen of Engage Group; Lindsay McCoy of Medstar; Courtney Mulchay and Heather Lowe of CDR Fundraising; Sunny Matani of Chapman, Cubine Hussey & Adams; Leigh Ann Doyle of Production Management Group; and Tierra Collins of Cosby Marketing.
After brief introductions and career histories, each panel member offered current students advice. “Network,” suggested Mulchay and Nielsen. “Be polished,” said Collins. Lowe and Doyle advised students to join clubs like Marketing Excellence. Matani and McCoy mentioned business competitions. Many of the panelists got their jobs by participating in the Direct Marketing Association of Washington’s Education Foundation (DMAWEF) MAXI Competition or Mentor for a Day program.
During a question-and-answer session, students in Morris’ Principles of Marketing class asked about resumes and internships. Because all of the panelists took Advertising & Promotions as SU students, discussions became livelier and more focused in those classes. The alumni offered support and advice on classroom projects, as well as job search advice.
Before each class ended, Nielsen mentioned internship opportunities with her organization, and Mulchay suggested that students apply for any of the three jobs available at her firm.
