Shag dancingSALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s dance class series continues Mondays, September 21-October 26, with instruction in Carolina Shag dancing.

Taught by instructors Gary and Robbi Mann, classes are 5 p.m. in the Great Hall of Holloway Hall. No experience or pre-registration is necessary. Individual dancers and couples are welcome.

The shag is a form of swing dancing that evolved from the jitterbug and jump blues of the big band jazz era, and originated along the strands between Myrtle Beach, SC, and Wilmington, NC, during the 1940s.

The series culminates with a dance Party 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, October 27. A refresher course in basic steps for the Shag begins at 6 p.m.

Sponsored by the Cultural Affairs Office, admission is free and the public is invited. For more information call 410-543-6271 or visit the SU website at www.salisbury.edu.
