SALISBURY, MD---Gansu Song and Dance Theatre brings the pageantry of Chinese dance to Salisbury University’s Holloway Hall Auditorium during Silk Road, Flower Rain 7 p.m. Monday, December 12.
In 1979, the award-winning classic production was staged to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the National Dunhuang Holiday. The dance displays the richness of the culture and represents the city’s working class, as well as long-lasting friendships between the Chinese and people from abroad.
In 1982, the production was filmed and released in theatres by the Xi’an Movie Studio. That year, the company became the first Asian troupe to perform at the prestigious La Scala Theatre in Milan, Italy. In 2008, it performed at the Beijing Olympics.
Since its inception, Silk Road has been performed over 1,600 times and been seen by an estimated 3.2 million people in 20 countries. In 2004 it was named “Best Dance Drama in China.”
Sponsored by the SU Office of Cultural Affairs, World Artists Experiences, Inc. and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, admission is free and the public is invited.
