|Salisbury Mayor and SU alumnus James Ireton, President Janet Dudley-Eshbach and Sammy the Sea Gull joined to congratulate more than 500 SU students who volunteered during the Student Government Association’s sixth annual Big Event community cleanup day on Saturday, April 17. The students did yard work and light maintenance at more than 70 residences and municipal properties including the downtown plaza and several area parks during the festive event.|
During the community service project, hundreds of SU students helped University neighbors with household chores such as raking leaves, cleaning attics and painting. Students also assisted with the cleanup of municipal properties including Salilsbury's Downtown Plaza and several area parks.
“The Big Event is important for SU to continue because it lets the community know that we are here to help them,” said Julia Glanz, SGA vice president of external affairs. “The community does so much for SU and this is just our way of saying ‘thank you.’ It is also important that we get to know our neighbors and they get to know us because we can learn a lot from each other. Salisbury is our home, too, and we want it to be as nice as it can be.”
