SSO Welcomes New Board Members

SALISBURY, MD--The Salisbury Symphony Orchestra welcomes two new board members known to the local arts community:  Kristine Adams and Tom Hehman.

“I am happy to have them join what is already an enthusiastic board of directors,” said chair Lee Knier.  “Both of them come with backgrounds in music and theatre that will serve the orchestra well.”

Adams, partner in Adams Housing of Salisbury, has been active for several years in children’s theatre.  As a student at Salisbury University where she earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees, she was known for her work on stage.  She also taught theatre and communication arts classes after graduating and was on staff at SU’s Maryland Summer Center for the Arts.

Hehman, director of the Wicomico Public Library, is a lifetime musician who plays trumpet with the SU Wind Ensemble under Conductor Knier and the Salisbury Community Band under Dr. Charles Smith.  “The library is interested in what is happening in the community,” said Hehman.  “The library is also becoming a cultural resource with readings, performances and other arts activities happening here.  Membership on the orchestra board seems a natural.”

“It’s wonderful to see the arts come to life in this area,” said Adams.  “The vitality and growth are exciting.  I’m particularly pleased with the upcoming children’s concert of Peter and the Wolf and The Toy Symphony.  As the parents of four, my husband, Kevin, and I believe in making the arts part of our children’s lives.”

“When my wife, Liz Hamilton, and I moved to Salisbury in January 2004, one of the first things we did was attend an SSO concert,” said Hehman.  “We were both immediately impressed and pleased by the quality of the orchestra.  I think the quality of the local music scene is remarkable.”

The SSO has also elected new officers for the year:  chair is Knier; vice chair is Mellinda Brandon and treasurer is Kimberly Roemer-Granger.
