Chesapeake Bay Expert Wennersten Speaks Thursday, May 5

SALISBURY, MD---Dr. John Wennersten, an expert on Eastern Shore issues, speaks on “The Chesapeake and Its Tributaries: Stories of Ruin and Recovery” 4 p.m. Thursday, May 5, at Salisbury University’s Henson Science Hall Room 103. Wennersten, professor emeritus from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, is a nationally recognized writer and consultant on Chesapeake Bay affairs. His work regularly appears in national and regional periodicals. The Maryland Humanities Commission recently selected him as a Maryland Millennial Scholar. Wennersten received the Maryland Writer’s Award from the Maryland Arts Council for his book The Oyster Wars of Chesapeake Bay. His books Maryland’s Eastern Shore: A Journey in Time and Place and The Chesapeake, An Environmental History are widely used by readers and scholars with an interest in the Chesapeak Bay region. His 25 Bicycle Tours on Delmarva is in its second edition.  Wennersten’s academic achievements include tenured professorships at UMES and Tokiwa University, Mito, Japan. He has also held a visiting scholar appointment at Cambridge University and two Fulbright professorships at the National University of Singapore and the University of Hong Kong.
