Environmental Issues Major is New at SU (September 3, 2004)

SALISBURY, MD---Society is faced with proliferating environmental challenges, from on-going restoration attempts in the Chesapeake Bay, to rising gas prices and diminished oil reserves, to the threat of global climate change. Salisbury University offers a new interdisciplinary major in environmental issues which includes political, economic, ethical and biological factors in understanding and solving environmental problems.

The all-encompassing major features courses in biology, economics, history, philosophy, political science, and sociology among others. It builds upon the popular environmental studies minor by presenting multiple scientific and ethical perspectives. Students may tailor their degree program to fit interests and career goals.

The humanities and social science based coursework complements the existing scientifically focused environmental health major and dual degree program in environmental science offered at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

For more information on the environmental issues program, contact director Dr. Michael Lewis of the History Department at 410-677-5020 or mllewis@salisbury.edu.
