SU Fall International Film Series Lineup Announced
SALISBURY, MD---When viewers see movies in this year’s fall International Film Series at Salisbury University, Dr. James Welsh, co-founder of the journal Literature/Film Quarterly, hopes they will get a feel for life in Europe during the fall of communism in the 1980s.
“When they see Pretty Village, Pretty Flame, I hope they’ll come away with some kind of understanding of the horrible conditions people had to live through in Yugoslavia, for example,” he said.
Likewise, Ulysses’ Gaze is a remembrance of the end of a tumultuous era in European history.
“It has to do with the return of a filmmaker to his homeland after the collapse of communism,” Welsh said.
The series is part of SU’s focus on Eastern European culture this fall. The following films are shown in Room 243 of the Henson Science Building.
* Monday, September 8, 8 p.m.: The Harms Case (Yugoslavia 1988) – Slobodan Pesic’s postmodern biopic based on the life and writing of the visionary Russian avant garde poet Danil Harms, the 90-minute film features Serbo-Croatian dialogue with English subtitles.
