McLean Mix Offers Rainforest Experience April 12-14

SALISBURY, MD---The McLean Mix brings its interactive sound exhibit to Salisbury University Tuesday-Thursday, April 12-14, in the Wicomico Room of the Guerreri University Center.  This exhibit is part of the spring cultural series One Earth, Many Disciplines.  “Rainforest” offers students the chance to interact with the presentation.  The installation is a portable audio-visual-environmental interactive exhibit that allows participants to create original and beautiful sounds using wildlife recordings and other instruments while viewing a slide presentation of rainforests around the world. The McLeans, who recorded rainforest sounds from locations such as Peru, Hawaii, Australia, Borneo and Puerto Rico, will be present to answer and questions.  Participant Michael Parkinson at Webster University hailed the exhibit as a “major advancement over many multi-media projects” and Anneliese Weibel of SUNY University called it “very, very powerful!  Haunting!” The McLean Mix has also received praise from newspapers around the world.  The New York Times said that “The McLeans made it easier for the audience to cope through their performance virtuosity and the evocative and sometimes dramatic nature of the music” and called it a “strange but intriguing aural and visual experience.”  The San Antonio Express-News questioned “Can high-tech electronics and the natural realm get along together?  Yes, enchantingly, in the music of composers-performers Barton and Priscilla McLean.”  Music in New Zealand called it “evocative...sounds were all beautifully sampled and synthesized, and mixed with skill and understanding.” Sponsored by the Office of Cultural Events and Museum Programs, admission is free and the public is invited.  For more information call 410-543-6271 or visit the SU Web site at www.salisbury.edu.
