Visual Comedian Peter Geist Performs at SU July 9

SALISBURY, MD---From magic and juggling to miming and physical comedy, Peter Geist does it all. The visual comedian comes to Salisbury University’s Holloway Hall Auditorium 7 p.m. Friday, July 9, as part of the Maryland Summer Center for the Arts. Sporting gaudy outfits and an even wilder hairdo, Geist describes himself as “a 12-year-old trapped in the body of a 36-year-old man.” The performer got his start at an amusement park near his native Lancaster, PA, at age 14. Today, he performs some 200 shows each year nationwide and internationally, including the International Children's Festival in Virginia; the National Theatre's Family Series in Washington, DC; and the Goodwill Games in New York; and The Mirage Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Geist claims his inspiration from such physical comedians as The Three Stooges, Harold Lloyd and Charlie Chaplin. He has been compared to his idol, Buster Keaton. "Kids like this stuff because it's silly. It's visual. They can listen with their eyes instead of their ears," Geist said. "But this is not just a 'kiddie show.' This show is for everyone." But don’t take his word for it. "The Wacky Waiter is great!” said film critic Leonard Maltin of Geist’s trademark character. “Stupendous!” Sponsored by the Maryland Summer Center for the Arts and Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council, tickets for Geist’s SU show are $10 for adults, $5 for children under 5.
