SU Wind Ensemble Presents Annual Spring Concert May 4

SALISBURY, MD---The Salisbury University Wind Ensemble presents a balance of wind compositions and classical arrangements during its annual Spring Concert 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, in Holloway Hall Auditorium. Conducted by new director Jacqueline Wogick, the concert features Carter’s Overture For Winds, McBeths’ Chant and Jubilo, selections from Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite, Saint-Saens’ Danse Macabre, Holst’s First Suite in E Flat and Daehn’s As Summer Was Just Beginning (Song For James Dean). “This selection is reflective of the lasting and indelible impact young people can make on our world,” said Wogick of the Daehn piece. The program also highlights graduate student Heather Fullerton, a middle school band director, who guest conducts Prokofiev’s March from Love for Three Oranges. The ensemble includes university students, community members and music teachers throughout the Eastern Shore. The 45-member group is comprised of a complete wind section clarinets, flutes, oboes, bassoons and saxophones, a well-complimented brass section trumpets, trombones, French horns and tubas, and a full percussion section. “Working with this group has been an incredible pleasure,” said Wogick. “The talent of its members, their dedication and excellent musicianship are what makes music making what it ought to be exhilarating.” Sponsored by the Department of Music, the concert is free and the public is cordially invited.
