SU is a Leader in the Maryland Chiefs' Challenge

SALISBURY, MD---Year after year, new studies emerge showing seat belt use saves lives. With those studies in mind, Salisbury University Police this year are again participating in the Maryland Chiefs’ Challenge, is a two-month campaign running through June 6 during which law enforcement agencies strive to provide citizens with the knowledge and motivation to always use their seat belts. The percent of Marylanders who use their seat belts is one of the highest in the nation with an 85 percent usage rate for 2003. SU’s campus community exceeds that rate. The 2003 Chiefs’ Challenge netted the University three awards for its educational activities and seat belt usage rate. SU received one Pacesetter Award for a seat belt survey conducted in the library parking lot with 90 percent usage and another for a seat belt survey within the SU Police that showed 100 percent usage. University Police also received the Chiefs’ Challenge Award for educational efforts in promoting seat belt use.
